Wonder Book Camp

Wonder Book Camp (WBC) is a Christian Camp that started about 80 years ago here in Birmingham. Elias and Nelle Gurubel are the directors. WBC is held at Camp Booth which is located 30 miles southwest of Birmingham. The mission and goal of WBC is to share the love of Jesus with children and teenagers during a week-long camp every Summer, as well as a Spring and Fall weekend retreat.
CSM has been blessed to be a part of Wonder Book Camp for over 15 years now. One of their regular camp volunteers, Carole Chapman, also volunteers every Tuesday here at CSM. For many years we’ve provided food and other items for their retreats. According to Nelle, this donation is a blessing not only to their food budget, but it allows them to use these re-directed funds to pay camp fees for those children who otherwise would not be able to attend camp. Recently, they held their Spring retreat for which we were able to provide about 1,000 pounds of food, drinks and water.

Elias and Nelle, along with their dedicated volunteers, are committed to seeing children and teenagers come to know Jesus as their Savior and to see them grow stronger in their faith. Some of these volunteers are second, third and fourth generation campers. We believe that the seeds that they are sowing into these young people lives will reap a harvest for the Kingdom.
